Chemical damage
Corrosion, surface alterations and opacification can occur individually or as a combination because of several factors:
ALKALI: chemical reactions can occur on glass surfaces as a result of prolonged exposure to strong alkalis. Surface corrosion and alterations are one of the consequences.
CONCRATE CORROSION: corrosion of the surface often occurs when cement is used in the vicinity of glass or through rain.
ACIDS: it is common knowledge that acids cause glass corrosion and are contained in some cleaning products.
PLASTER: lime plaster and filler materials damage glass surfaces causing a white layer to appear.
PRIMERS: in order to restore cement and marble, it is necessary to employ primers containing silica.
MAINTENANCE PRODUCS: marble and metal facades are often treated with water proofing materials containing salts, siloxan and a silicon containing solvents.
PAINTS: lime and silica based colours.
