Vetrocare and Biffignandi Group’s commitment to sustainability

Every year on June 8th, World Oceans Day reminds us of the vital role the ocean plays in sustaining life on our planet. At Vetrocare, this day is also an opportunity to reflect on how our work, seemingly distant from the waves, can contribute to their protection.

As part of the Biffignandi Group, Vetrocare shares a vision focused on waste reduction, surface restoration, and environmental responsibility. Every glass panel we repair and every surface we restore represents a tangible choice to avoid producing new materials and to reduce environmental impact.

A journey through science and awareness: the Lifexplorer expedition

This year, our commitment to sustainability also took the form of a meaningful scientific project: an oceanographic expedition across the Pacific Ocean, led by Alberto Biffignandi, President of the Group, aboard a sailing vessel equipped for monitoring floating plastics.

The journey passed through French Polynesia, the Tuamotu and Marquesas Islands, and Hawaii—remote and fragile ecosystems. Onboard, the crew installed Manta, a system developed by Oceaneye to collect and analyze microplastics at sea using advanced scientific protocols. Initial samples, gathered off the coast of Nuku Hiva and during the first leg toward Hawaii, are already contributing to more precise mapping of marine pollution.

Sustainability as a system: the Biffignandi Group’s approach

Action at sea is just one of many expressions of a broader commitment. Each company within the Biffignandi Group is actively working toward a development model based on circular economy principles and the pursuit of sustainable technical solutions:

These efforts produce real, measurable impact: less waste, lower emissions, and more resources recovered. All of this has a direct influence on the health of our oceans, where, according to UNEP, over 11 million tonnes of plastic are dumped every year.

Awaken New Depths: a call to action

The theme chosen by the United Nations for 2025—Awaken New Depths—is a call to look beyond the surface, to uncover new levels of awareness, and to turn that awareness into meaningful action. At Vetrocare, each intervention is a step in that direction: proving that repairing is often better than replacing, and that quality can, and must, go hand in hand with sustainability.

Happy World Oceans Day from Vetrocare’s team.
